The client purchased this townhouse several years ago. She had considered moving from time to time but she enjoyed the many friendships and amenities of the communityshe was living in. Instead of moving she decided to extensively remodel her townhouse. The transformation took place starting with the re-plastering of all the walls in a smooth finish. The interior doors and hardware were replaced and new door casings, baseboards and corwn molding added. We designed a dramatic paneled fireplace mantle that added a strong architectural element to the living room. Custom iron handrails on the staircase, dark stained walnut hardwood flooring and iron chandeliers and lanterns furthercontributed to the dramatic makeover. The two story ceiling height and long windowless side wall in the living / dining room presented a challenge. This was solved by placing a large scaled mirror over the sofa, hanging a bold framed vintage French poster designing a tall backed upholstered banquette for the dining area. Interlined silk curtains and sheers and the terra cotta wall color lend additional warmth and mitigates the cavernous height of the room. We remodeled the kitchen with terra cotta tile floors, new cabinets and appliances. The kitchen's European country style cabinetry, furnishings and fabrics compliment the adjacent living room's Old World style.
